Health officials are urging the public to take precautions , especially during the summer months when people are more likely to engage in activities that increase exposure to the bacteria. These precautions include avoiding swimming in warm seawater if you have open cuts or wounds and ensuring that shellfish are thoroughly cooked before consumption.
