Frank Grimes, the Coronation Street star that played Barrington 'Barry' Connor, has sadly died at the age of 78.

He passed away after a short illness on August 1, surrounded by his family, The Irish Cultural Centre (ICC) confirmed.

The ITV actor starred in Corrie from 2008 to 2015, playing the father of Paul Connor, Liam Connor and Michelle Connor.

He appeared in more than 50 episodes of the long-running soap, with the actor returning in 2015 for his final appearance during Michelle's wedding to Steve McDonald.

In a statement, the ICC said: "Frank was undoubtedly one of Ireland's greatest actors, he was a dearly loved friend of the ICC's and over the past three decades, he trod the ICC's stage on so many occasions.
