A South Dennis man pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to threatening to kill a “prominent federal official” and two of the official’s family members, prosecutors said.
Michael P. Mahoney, 62, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Boston to one count of transmitting interstate threats to injure another person, US Attorney Leah B. Foley’s office said in a statement .
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 29, the statement said. The charge provides a maximum sentence of five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
Mahoney was initially arrested and charged in April after placing a threatening phone call to a relative of the federal official, who remains unidentified.
The call was made at around 10:15 p.m. on March 28, while the re
