BERTHOLD (KXNET) - A person was found dead following a barn fire southwest of Berthold on Wednesday evening, according to the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze at 30301 20th Ave SW around 6:21 p.m. Multiple fire departments assisted in battling the fire. During the response, authorities learned that one individual on the property was unaccounted for.

Firefighters later discovered the deceased person in the collapsed structure. The victim’s identity has not been released pending family notification.

The cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.

Sheriff Robert Roed confirmed the details in a statement obtained by KX News on Friday morning.
