Authorities have ordered evacuations after a fast-moving brush fire ignited in a canyon southeast of Lake Piru on Thursday, Aug. 7, quickly exploding to more than 4,800 acres within hours.
The blaze was first reported around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, in a remote area in the 6700 block of Holser Canyon Road near Piru, initially estimated at about 30 acres. It rapidly spread, threatening nearby ranches and properties.
By 4 p.m., the fire had grown to 1,051 acres with 0% containment, pushing away from the community of Piru and toward Los Angeles County. By 9:30 p.m., it had reached 4,856 acres.
The fire comes as Southern California faces some of its hottest days of the year, with temperatures reaching 118 degrees under a heat dome — and just days after federal agencies warned of an
