SHAWANO, Wis. (WBAY) - Shawano police officers arrested a woman after a trespassing complaint who was carrying a replica handgun.

Police say when they responded to the complaint, the woman was combative and resisted officers taking her into custody. Officers spotted a black handgun in the waistband of her pants.

Officers couldn’t tell it wasn’t a real handgun until they had it in their possession and could look at it closely. They say the Glock 19 air pistol looked, felt, and had the markings of a real firearm.

“We are very fortunate that the situation turned out the way it did,” the police department said in a statement, reminding people of the dangers and decisions police officers face when responding to calls.
