APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - According to a study from the National Library of Medicine, heat stroke is a leading cause of death in high school football players.
Training at Appleton North High School is taken very seriously and the athletes’ safety is top of mind. They work with athletic trainers from ThedaCare in conjunction to keep them safe.
On Friday, their turf is normally full of action, where the football team practices, but they had to move their practice inside for the last half hour for safety.
Appleton North invited Action 2 News to talk about how they’re keeping their students safe during football practices during the heat, humidity in summer, and mixed in with some days of poor air quality. They had to step in and send their players inside because coaches saw the heat starting
