Gov. Jeff Landry is ordering a criminal investigation into the recent disposal of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court records.
Clerk Darren Lombard says the city’s public works department, which had custody of criminal case records dating to the 1950s, moved the records to a yard and dumped at least some of them into a landfill.
“This incident represents significant risks to the integrity of our criminal justice system,” Landry said in a letter on Thursday to State Police Col. Robert Hodges.
Landry, who posted the letter on social media on Friday morning, directed Hodges to conduct a swift investigation “to identify those responsible” so they “can be prosecuted and held accountable.”
