MODESTO, Calif. —

A Modesto Police Department officer was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car during a vehicle pursuit, police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Modesto police was dispatched to the 1700 block of Boulder Avenue for reports of a shooting.

Responding officers located the suspect's vehicle and attempted to make contact, the police department said.

The driver fled the scene and struck the officer, and the police department said a shooting involving police happened afterward.

The officer was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.

Officers later found the driver and took them into custody.

They will be booked into Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for multiple felony charges.
