PONCHATOULA, La. — The Ponchatoula candy maker, known for Gold Brick and Heavenly Hash eggs, has been sold to a Florida-based conglomerate, ending nearly 200 years of local ownership.

It's unknown what the equity firm paid for Elmer's, which generates around 100 million dollars annually.

Hoffman's Co-CEO says the company aims to help the brand expand while keeping existing management and employees.

The company was initially founded in 1850 as the Miller Candy Company in the Lower Garden District - but was re-named and moved to the Warehouse District in 1914.
