The Justice Department has issued two subpoenas to New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to The New York Times.
One is related to her office’s civil fraud case against President Donald Trump. That case resulted in a penalty worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
The other involves James’ long-running case against the National Rifle Association.
People familiar with the matter told the Times the new subpoenas are part of a civil rights investigation to determine if the attorney general’s office violated Trump’s rights.
The subpoenas appear unrelated to a case involving James’ real estate transactions , which was confirmed earlier this year.
James has been a fierce adversary of Trump since she first ran for attorney general in 2018, the Times said. She sued him in 2022
