ST. LOUIS — A drug smuggling attempt involving an attorney visiting an inmate at Central Michigan Correctional Facility was stopped by Michigan Department of Corrections officers and intelligence staff, officials said.

The incident occurred Monday, Aug. 4, during an attorney-client visit. Officers observed the attorney passing a package to the prisoner. A search of the inmate revealed 211 strips of suspected Suboxone, 68 grams of a brown waxy substance, and 45 grams of white powder, according to MDOC.

Michigan State Police were called to the facility to assist with the investigation. A search of the attorney’s vehicle uncovered additional Suboxone strips and white powder. The attorney remains under investigation by state police, and the prisoner is undergoing internal discipline and inve
