NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Governor Bill Lee announced plans to seek changes to Tennessee's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program on Friday.
The changes to the program include allowing SNAP recipients to buy hot food, like hot prepared chicken, including rotisserie chicken and grilled chicken tenders, but not fried or breaded options, and limiting processed food options. This would ban any items that list high-fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, sugar or similar alternatives as the first ingredient. Additionally, the changes to the program would ban drinks with carbonated water and sugar, as well as high-fructose corn syrup or a similar alternative, are the first two ingredients.
