WENATCHEE — The Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest is a dense forest across rugged landscape making it difficult to fight and leading to many campground, trail and road closures for safety concerns. The fire remains 0% contained.
Nearly two months after it was first reported, the Pomas Fire continues to burn deep within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, with no containment and limited access due to its steep, hazardous terrain.
As of Wednesday, the lightning-caused Pomas Fire has burned about 3,468 acres and remains 0% contained, according to official incident data.
While fire behavior has slowed due to cooler temperatures and scattered rain, officials say it will take a significant weather event, like sustained heavy rain or snowfall, to extinguish the fire.
