Sturdy Health in Attleboro is significantly expanding its emergency department as part of a $150 million capital-improvement project that officials at the health system say is an effort to invest in access to care in the community.

It's the first major emergency department renovation for the independent community health system, which has seen volume steadily increasing over the past decade, said its president and CEO Aimee Brewer.
