A Romeo man accused of beating and dragging a dog last weekend has been charged with animal cruelty, Michigan State Police said.

Corbin Charles Sutton, 31, was arraigned Tuesday in 42-1 District Court in Romeo, officials said.

He is charged with cruelty to an animal, court records said.

A judge set Sutton's bond at $25,000 and scheduled his next hearing for Aug. 19, according to the court.

If convicted, he faces up to 93 days in jail.

His attorney was not immediately available for comment on Friday.

State police said dispatchers at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday received numerous calls reporting a man was beating and dragging a dog near the Springbrook Estates mobile home community at Van Dyke Avenue and 33 Mile in Romeo.
