BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Buffalo man was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison on Friday after a shooting on Main Street left one man dead last year, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Officials said Ronald O'Neil, 41, shot 42-year-old Darius Spates, Jr. multiple times on the 3100 block of Main Street on May 26, 2024. O'Neil used an illegal gun in the shooting that occurred around 2:30 a.m.

The victim was taken to ECMC with a gunshot wound to the back where he was pronounced deceased.

O'Neil previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
