CROWN HEIGHTS — A LONG-ABANDONED COMMERCIAL BUILDING ON BEDFORD AVENUE sits derelict, hoping for a developer to renovate it. The two-story building at 1391 Bedford and St. Mark’s Avenues is situated near a history-rich Brooklyn Church which once owned it, the Washington Temple Church of God in Christ. The commercial building, constructed in 1910, was an auto showroom. Later it became an in-demand ballroom, which the late Congressmember Shirley Chisholm used for political events. The ballroom’s owners lost the building in a tax lien to the City of New York, which in 1986 sold it to the Washington Temple Church of God in Christ.
