CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — An Air Quality Alert has been issued for several counties in West Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the alert is now in effect for multiple north central West Virginia counties, including Marion, Monongalia, Preston and Tucker counties, along with several others in the northern and eastern panhandles due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.

The advisory is a code orange, according to the NWS, which means that elevated Fine Particulates causing pollution in the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly or people with asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases.

Weather conditions could also have an impact on the air quality.
