MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office is looking into whether a 2020 homicide at Devil’s Lake State Park could be connected to a recent double homicide that happened in Arkansas.

On Oct. 14, 2020, authorities found John Schmutzer stabbed to death near the Grottos trail on the south side of the park, in Baraboo. He was 24 years old.

Despite hundreds of leads, Schmutzer’s killer has never been caught.

Sauk Co. officials previously described a person of interest as a man, who was roughly six feet tall, wearing a dark top and dark pants with rips in the knees. They called him “the runner.”

Last month, authorities in Arkansas arrested Andrew James McGann.
