According to the Georgia Department of Education, students posted another year of gains in mathematics on the 2024-2025 Georgia Milestones assessments.
It marks the second straight year of improvement since the state replaced Common Core with its own K-12 mathematics standards during the 2023-2024 school year. The percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above increased on six of the seven math assessments.
Science and social studies scores also improved, with three of four science assessments and both social studies assessments increasing or holding steady.
Reading proficiency rose in five of seven grade levels. English Language Arts scores increased or held steady on two of seven assessments, with small decreases in the other five.
