KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly five decades in prison following the 2024 abduction of a 16-year-old girl in downtown Leavenworth, Kansas.

On Aug. 14, 2024, Lajuan Sammie Louis Lowery, of Leavenworth, assaulted the teen near 10th Street between Pottawatomie and Osage streets. The victim was walking to her mother's house around 7 p.m. when Lowery grabbed her from behind and dragged her into an alley. He placed his hand over her mouth and threw her to the ground during the struggle.

The teen fought back—elbowing Lowery, yelling for help and screaming that she was pregnant. Lowery eventually fled the scene.
