GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- The Palisade Peach Days kicked off with an ice cream social Thursday night. Families and community members gathered to enjoy free ice cream and a live band. The Peach Days are to build up anticipation for the upcoming Palisade Peach Festival, taking place the weekend of Aug.15th.

Long time event coordinator Dixie Burmeister tells WesternSlopeNow about the Ice Cream Social:

“This is kind of the kickoff of our Peach Days, which goes from today through the 17th of August. We're having an ice cream social and street dance tonight, so I'll be dancing. We have bands tuning up and of course, ice cream!”

The social event also featured the annual “Guns vs Hoses” tug-o-war competition. Palisades police and fire departments took the stage, with quite the crowd to cheer
