Wildlife and health officials have shared an important reminder on a threat that recently resulted in the loss of a family pet in Vernal. A pet cat found a bat and brought it to its owner. The owner immediately contacted officials and the bat was safely retrieved and sent to the state health lab for testing. It came back positive for Rabies. Tragically, the cat was not vaccinated against Rabies and it was not a happy outcome. Owners are urged to get their pets vaccinations up to date as there are more than just bats that can carry Rabies.
