The Wesley Ridge wildfire north of Cameron Lake remained at 571 hectares on Friday morning, and the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says recent growth has all been in “steep backcountry terrain.”

Crews responding to the fire have made “excellent progress” in suppressing the fire near the residential areas, and are “advancing to establish containment of the northern, western and eastern flanks, where the fire is burning in steep terrain,” BCWS said in a 9:30 a.m. update on Aug. 8.

The fire is burning primarily at a Rank 1 level, with some pockets of Rank 2 within the perimeter.

“Fire growth has been minimal and limited to steep backcountry terrain the past several days,” BCWS said.
