SUMMIT TWP., MI – A reported shooting in Summit Township Thursday night turned out to be a false alarm, originating from a video game.

Jackson County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 10:52 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, indicating there was a possible shooting happening in a home on 20th Street in Summit Township, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from throughout the county rushed to the scene to discover there was no shooting nor any signs a shooting took place, police said.

Upon further investigation it was discovered a resident’s phone malfunctioned and called 911 while he was playing Fortnite, a popular online battle-royale shooting game, police said.
