SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – In an effort to enhance fire safety awareness, the Shreveport Fire Department has introduced "Fire Prevention Friday," a series of informative posts that will focus on a different fire safety topic each month.

This month’s theme centers on back-to-school safety, providing valuable tips for teachers, parents, and students to ensure a safe learning environment.

According to the most recent data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), US fire departments responded to an estimated 3,230 structure fires in schools each year from 2014 to 2018. A whopping $37 million in direct property damage a year.

Although the majority of school incidents are due to arson, limiting preventable fires remains a objective for the department.
