STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Crews have recovered the body of the 6-year-old boy missing in the Housatonic River in Stratford, according to officials.
Police said the boy fell into the river while walking on the Birdseye Street boat ramp around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. A United Illuminating employee jumped into the river in an attempt to save the boy, but he was not found until nearly 48 hours later.
On Friday morning, the Coast Guard announced they were calling off their search.
Officials said that strong currents made the search difficult. Officials said the current was going out when he fell in, and he was found in the direction that the current was going in.
