UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham has named a Tennessee hospital executive as its new CEO.

Kenny Shafer joins the University of Alabama at Birmingham from Tennessee, where was he was CEO of Johnson City Medical Center.

“I am honored to join the UAB Medicine team and to lead a hospital that has such a rich legacy of service to the community,” Shafer said in a news release Thursday.

He’s also worked at Ballad Health, including as CEO of Indian Path Medical Center.

In a news release, UAB praised Shafer’s work on expanding access to health care and developing the Ballad Health Trauma Network.
