DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. —

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested a man in Darlington County, South Carolina, on animal fighting and ill treatment of animals charges.

On Thursday, SLED said they arrested Michealus Antoine Jackson, 36, with animal fighting or baiting and ill treatment of animals.

According to arrest warrants, SLED executed a search warrant on Jackson's home in Hartsville.

SLED says they found 24 adult pit bull style dogs and one pit bull style puppy on the property.

Arrest warrants say multiple dogs had scarring, open wounds, no food, and inadequate housing. Warrants say the dogs were all restrained with heavy chains.

The scarring on the dogs and the use of heavy logging chains are consistent with people involved in dog fighting.
