SILVER SPRING, Md. — Purple Line construction in Silver Spring has been blamed for flooding two floors of an apartment complex, forcing 20 families out of their homes. Now, a nonprofit organization is stepping up to take donations to help those in need.

Last month, an unmarked utility line encountered during Purple Line construction work led to a water main break that flooded two floors of the Wayne Manchester Towers Apartment in the Long Branch neighborhood. The emergency impacted a total of 50 people. In addition, four units have been condemned and three others will require extensive repairs. Several of the impacted families lost belongings, thus needing to find new homes.
