SALT LAKE CITY — Utah has joined 51 attorneys general in a nationwide crackdown on illegal robocalls, sending warning letters to 37 voice providers accused of failing to follow federal rules aimed at stopping scam calls.

The action is part of Operation Robocall Roundup , a multistate effort led by the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force. The Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Consumer Protection and the Utah Attorney General’s Office are working together to enforce consumer protection laws against robocall operations.

State officials say the targeted companies have failed to register in the Federal Communications Commission’s Robocall Mitigation Database, respond to government traceback requests or submit plans showing how they will reduce illegal robocalls.
