Four tall ships are docked at the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority for Sail Fest Detroit.
The crews that maintain and sail the boat manually are aboard the boats to talk to members of the public about the history of sailing and what life is like on the water.
History is docked along the Detroit RiverWalk as captains and crews of four tall ships built for sailing show off their wooden vessels to the public in the Sail Detroit festival.
The ships, "The Alliance,” "Empire Sandy, "Ernestina-Morrissey" and "Pride of Baltimore II," travel around the world to teach people the history of sailing and what it is like to live and work on a boat. The boats arrived in Detroit on Aug. 7 and will stay until Aug. 10.
Boats and ships travel along the Detroit River often — including 70 cruise ships o
