CRAIG, Colo. (KREX) — Last week, the Moffat County Balloon Festival took place in colorful Craig, Colorado, bringing in a group of equally colorful characters.

The history of piloting hot air balloons is a storied one, starting all the way back in 1783 in France, but Craig’s contributions to this scene only began 15 years ago. Since then, modern advancements have made this zany zeppelin pastime into an aviation avocation!

Hot air balloon pilot Shannon White has been flying balloons for 35 years, and his expertise has now spanned multiple aircraft. When asked about his newer floral balloon patter, White told WesternSlopeNow, “The crew said we should have ‘Flower Power’ as the balloon, because it has flowers on it! It takes a real man to fly a flower balloon.”
