Citing the requirement to run for election twice in two years, a candidate for the vacant Maumee City Council seat has dropped out, while one more has thrown his name in for consideration.
Dave Poeppelmeier said he is withdrawing from his bid to be named to Scott Noonan’s seat because he would have to run for it in November, 2026 and then again in November, 2027.
“Unfortunately, this does not align well at all for my family,” Mr. Poeppelmeier said in a Thursday email. “My oldest son is a sophomore this year, and I do not want to be absent from any of his soccer or football games his last two years of high school due to campaigning. As I'm sure it is for all of you, family comes first.”
John Sayre, a businessman who also runs a non-profit, has also withdrawn his name.
“Taking on a counc
