CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A local human trafficking advocacy group held a public community meeting on Friday.
The Tri-County Human Trafficking Task Force had their quarterly meeting, breaking down statistics and what steps they’re taking to make changes at the state level.
After addressing several key points in the meeting, the task force had a large focus on future bills relating to how healthcare providers can detect victims of human trafficking.
One Medical University of South Carolina Nurse Practitioner, Erin Hart, works alongside the task force, and she said about 85% of victims will seek medical care while being trafficked.
She said House Bill 4343 will require all healthcare providers to take an education course on what signs point to human trafficking. The training course will
