Over 50,000 high school seniors, or 60% of the class of 2025, have filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), meeting the state's filing goal, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education announced earlier this week.
Since 2023, Indiana has set the goal of reaching a 60% FAFSA completion rate for high school seniors. Last year 58% of students completed the application, and 54% filed in 2023, according to the commission.
In 2023, state lawmakers approved a FAFSA completion requirement for all high school seniors. The requirement does not come with penalties if a student fails to apply, and parents can opt their child out of the mandate by submitting a signed waiver.
