In a letter delivered late last month, U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan, D-Highland, urged Postmaster General David Steiner to provide the public with more information regarding the planned closure of the Winfield post office substation.
As a contract postal unit (CPU), the privately-operated Winfield substation provides postal services to the public through a legal arrangement with the USPS.
The Times reported in June that the agency had advised the owner of the 109th Avenue property that houses the substation that the USPS would terminate its operating agreement for the substation after Sept. 30. A provision in the contract allows either party to exit the arrangement with 120 days' notice.
