ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The national balance of power reignited the redistricting conversation for New York lawmakers. A recently proposed amendment to New York's constitution would allow the congressional district lines to be redrawn early.

This week on Empire State Weekly, Jeff Wice, an adjunct professor at New York Law School, explained how a redistricting conversation in Texas prompted the push to amend New York's own redistricting process.

"The governor is trying to create a safety valve, so if all of a sudden for no apparent reason except for politics that another state starts redrawing its congressional lines to benefit one party over another, she doesn't want New York left in the position of losing out, and that New York should be able to do the same as any other state," Wice sai
