The Louisiana Department of Health has reported the first human case of West Nile virus in Orleans Parish.

West Nile virus cycles between wild birds and mosquitoes and can be transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.

The City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board urges residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites by limiting outdoor activities between dusk and dawn.

The city of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board will be conducting adult mosquito abatement Friday night.

Treatments will be conducted by truck from 8:45 p.m. until 12 a.m. in the following areas:
