Metro Detroiters will have to brace for heat over at least the next week.

Though the warmth does not yet constitute a heat wave, southeast Michigan faces hot and humid conditions with the mercury reaching the lower 90s and peak heat indices in the mid-90s, said National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Considine.

“We’re kind of going to be flirting with that definition of a heat wave looking at Saturday into early next week,” Considine said.

NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook Friday for portions of Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake St Clair. Isolated thunderstorms are possible through the afternoon and evening. Although severe weather is not expected, stronger storms are capable of producing localized wind gusts of 30 knots.
