BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - From the moment they open, North Dakota’s golden sunflower blooms are impossible to miss and impossible to forget.
For farmer Clint Coleman of DJ Coleman Farms, this time of year is the payoff for months of labor.
“It’s exciting and rewarding. I think farmers put a lot of hard work into their fields, and some people come admire them and look at them. It’s rewarding,” Coleman said.
He planted his sunflowers on May 15, and now, in early August, the blooms are right on schedule.
“They’ll bloom for about two to three weeks, then start the dry-down process and be ready to combine by Oct. 1,” he explained.
While the sight of endless yellow fields has long been a summer hallmark, finding a perfect viewing spot has not always been easy. That is why North Dakota Tourism
