A construction project on Peninsula Drive is making for a challenging ride into Presque Isle State Park for cyclists.

The PennDOT project involves milling and paving about one and a half miles of roadway, starting near the park entrance and ending at 12th Street.

One lane has been closed for much of the summer. The project is causing traffic backups on busy beach days and is keeping some cyclists off the congested roadway.

Brian Jacobs, cyclist, said, "It's kind of slow down, take your time, a little bit of stop and go."

Q: Did it seem safe for cyclists?

Jacobs said, "No, we'd seen a couple on the road. I was wondering why they would be riding over that way. You know, I'd steer clear of all that area."

When asked if he would feel safe riding to the park, Eric Leonard, a cyclist, said
