LAKE FOREST, Illinois — It wasn’t Jeff Van Gundy strapped to the ankle of Alonzo Mourning during the peak of the Heat-Knicks rivalry, but Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel found his own way into the thick of a skirmish to break it up at the team’s joint practice Friday with the Chicago Bears at Halas Hall.

McDaniel, who also had some in-fighting on his team between Miami defenders Friday, adamantly ordered his players to stop, putting himself in the line of fire between the Bears and Dolphins as he corralled his team.

Keep in mind McDaniel, when he played wide receiver at Yale, was listed at 5-feet-9, 175 pounds. He hasn’t tacked on much weight since his playing days more than 20 years ago.
