DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have dropped veteran reliever Luke Jackson after only three appearances.
Jackson was designated for assignment on Friday and replaced with right-handed reliever Codi Heuer, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
Heuer was acquired at the trade deadline from the Texas Rangers for cash considerations.
Jackson, who turns 34 this month, walked five and struck out four in 4 2/3 innings during his brief tenure with the Tigers.
“We liked what Codi Heuer was doing, acquired him, and then it became a shorter opportunity for Luke,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. “We’re just arranging our bullpen the best we can for the series that’s right in front of us. It’s tough news for Luke. It wasn’t a long opportunity.”
