LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County Board of Education is moving forward with plans to acquire more land for its Rise STEM Academy for Girls, but some homeowners say the way the district is doing it is unethical.

On Tuesday, the board announced it would take steps toward eminent domain.

Four property owners are now suing, saying crews have been trespassing on their land for months, causing damage and ignoring repeated requests to meet.

“Since March of 2024, I’ve watched a lot of things happen back here,” homeowner Kris Zander said. “They were bringing large equipment back through the access road and they really started demolition.”

Attorney Bruce Simpson says the group has tried for over a year to work things out directly with the district.
