Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly offered to halt the war in Ukraine if Kyiv cedes control of significant eastern territories.

The proposal, which was presented to U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff this past Wednesday, suggests that Ukraine would have to surrender the Russian-speaking Donbas region to Moscow in exchange for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The Wall Street Journal, citing European and Ukrainian officials, reported the development on Friday. This comes as the Trump administration continues its push for a resolution to the conflict, which has been ongoing since 2022 and has resulted in an estimated loss of hundreds of thousands of lives.
