OCEAN CITY — An eagerly awaited midsummer opening for a new Lululemon location at Eighth Street and Asbury Avenue had shoppers lined around the block Friday.

The location had been a Ron Jon Surf Shop, and was part of discussions earlier this year about vacancies downtown. Local business leaders say the city’s retail scene is booming, citing 26 ribbon cuttings held in town since March.

Mayor Jay Gillian led the countdown, and Lululemon store manager Laurie Sykes cut the ceremonial ribbon to the applause of employees, local officials and shoppers.
