AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Tax-free weekend is underway in Texas, just in time for the start of the school year.

Backpacks, clothes and tennis shoes, sold for less than $100, are among some of the items that fall under this weekend’s tax-free category.

Larger-scale stores like Amarillo’s Academy have scheduled additional employees this weekend to better handle the spike in customer traffic.

“I have over 100 people every day and 20 cashiers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. so we can control the traffic. We have a lot of help this weekend, and we’re almost tripling the help‚" said Edith Armendariz, Academy store director.
