WESTFIELD, Ind. — It's a sound people in Westfield know well.

Heavy construction equipment building on nearly every corner.

Becky Lane, who owns Becky the Bakester in downtown Westfield, said she's seen the area transform.

"Since I moved here like ten years ago, it's a completely different city," Lane said.

In 2020, the U.S. Census said Westfield had around 47,000 residents, ranking it the sixth-fastest growing city in the country.

"I would say that the growth has made it possible for me to have this business here," Lane said.

Westfield Mayor Scott Willis said with the exponential growth, he thinks in the last five years the city has grown by 15,000 to 20,000 people at least creating a gap in tax revenue the city needs.
